hi.  Having become vegetarian at the age of 13 I turned to the dark side again when I was about 24 whilst spending a summer in crete with my then partner who was a carnivore.  It was very difficult back then in 1995 to be veggie in crete, the locals thought I was mental!  Unfortunately I cracked and spent the following 15 years eating meat, meat and more meat without a care or thought for what I was actually sticking down my throat.  Thankfully, I have once again come to my senses and stopped eating dead animal flesh a week ago.  I arrived at this juncture through a developing interest in Buddhism, which you may know, is a life practise which has respect for all living things.  Its funny how things work out in life and how we can sometimes lose our way before finding the right path again.  Has anyone else out there come back to vegetarianism?  If so, how &why?  Would be interesting to hear your tale :)

when i was 12 i was a vegetarian at Christmas time but also had a milk allergy, but i got constantly slandered off my parents for it, so i turned back to being a meat eater.
When i was 14 my milk allergy subsided i thought to myself why did i listen, I then turned vegi without a real reason, months later i started to research how badly they treat animals and came across "If slaughter houses had glass walls" and it made me make my final decision that i was made to be a vegetarian no matter what ever anyone else said

I started my vegetarian path just as a challenge and never looked back. Now I'm a vegan, logical and ethical.

It's hard to remain vegan when you live with loved ones who eat meat and dairy.  I went vegan last year, but eventually caved due to that craving for the taste of meat.  Now I'm back to eating vegan again.  This time for good.  I made this decision today after seeing the youtube video of Gary Yourofsky's talk in 2010 to a group of students in Atlanta, Georgia, and they showed the horrible cruelty towards animals and how much they suffer.  Now, it is impossible for me to consider eating animal foods ever again.  Now, if people ask me why am I vegan, I will direct them to youtube to watch Gary's video.  I refuse to participate in murder.   As Beata just posted, it is logical and ethical.
