Hi there! My name's Jeffrey, I have 20 years of life, and I'm currently situated in NYC. I joined this forum quite a while ago, but never took advantage (nor even introduced myself, how rude!) of it. Well, ever since I deactivated my facebook account I wanted to make an effort to join social networking sites wherein I share a commonality with the people on it. Since veganism, athleticism, and environmentalism/sustainability are crucial aspects of my life I figured why not be more active on this forum. Nothing to lose, but so many connections and shared stories/knowledge to gain!

I became vegan... hmm, this June will be my 3rd year anniversary *high five.* Prior, I was eating (it gets gross) a high protein (animal flesh) diet in an attempt to boast my athletic abilities. That shit sure wasn't working for me! I'd rather not go into the details, but if you're interested send me a message. Anyway, veganism is working wonders for me physically, mentally, and spiritually, and I never intend to consume anything that had a mother or came from a mother.

Currently, and on and off for the past year or so, I follow a fruit based diet. I eat pounds and pounds and pounds and pounds AND POUNDS of fruit daily. Crazy? I thought so too at one point. My book of reference is 80/10/10 by Dr. Doug Graham. I have never felt so alive before! I understand my diet can be viewed at as "extreme," even for veg* folks, but I do not judge others on their eating habits/paths in life, so I hope to receive the same treatment.

Other fun things about myself: I'm a (junior) student studying anthropology/sociology/environmental science, love (when the weather permits) commuting around the city on my bike, am a spin/yoga instructor, and um, I love my family! I'm not used to writing about myself, so sorry this post is very me me me, but hey that's what an introduction is all about right? :)

Welcome!

There's an 80/10/10 group on Volentia, you might like to join and take part in discussions :-)

Thank you for sharing your story, because it helps me and inspires me.  My family is omnivorous, but my 17 year old daughter is showing an interest in being vegan, and I think stories like yours would be the best way to show her that this is an ethical and sane lifestyle for people of all ages.

Judith, is your daughter a Volentia member, as we have lots of teens (over 1,500, including almost 300 vegans, with a couple in Toronto) if she needs support from her age group?

There are veg*n teen, veg*n under 18 and vegan under 18 groups. Ning, the platform Volentia runs on, allows members from age 13 upwards, though I've seen younger, as it's easy to register with an older date of birth.

For what it's worth, I turned vegetarian at about 14 and, some 30 odd years later (including taking the vegan pledge in 2010), I'm still alive and kicking ;-)

Thank you Richard, this is really helpful.  I will show this to my daughter.

jeffrey's post is over a year old, people :p

Your point being what, Randall?

welcome to the fold

if you are looking for supportive and active 8~1~1 group I suggest www.arawconnection.ning.com/30bananasaday.

Cheers Michael, a link to 30BaD is listed in the 80/10/10 group's 'Directory' (I'm a member on there too!).

Awww well I'm a year late but just wanna say helloooooooo to Jeffrey anyway :o)
