Happy Chanukah all! Just wanted to let you all know that there are loads of vegan recipes on the Jewish Vegetarian Society website, including for vegan challah, vegan brisket, vegan latkes and vegan doughnuts! Check out www.JVS.org.uk.
Happy Tu B'Shvat!!
This is OUR holiday - the holiday for Jewish Veg's. Did you do anything special for it? I volunteered and did face painting at my daughter's school, and later for dinner, we had 15 different fruits plus some nuts!
Thanks for the cholent recipe Debbie.
Hey, I almost want to move to Montreal just to be near the ONLY VEGAN CHABAD (probably in the world)
Check it out!
Cool - my cholent is pretty easy -- I take 1/8 cup each of 6 different beans (pinto, kidney, adzuki, garbanzo, soy, and black) and almonds and 1/4 cup barley -- I soak for at least 6 hours -- then I drain, add veggies (onions, mushrooms, zucchini, eggplant, kale, etc.) , spices (I use 1 teaspoon each turmeric, coriander, cumin, paprika, garam masala -- stuff like that. Stick it in my slow cooker with one pitcher full of filtered water -- on high until it boils, then low over Friday (I do all this on Thursday) -- Friday morning put it on high again, add kugel (I use 1/8 cup chopped nuts with 1/8-1/4 cup each of whole rye and whole spelt flours, add water to desired consistency -- I like it really hard, my Mom likes soft) -- I add the kugel and cook until it boils and then lower for the rest of Friday and into Shabbat -- until after Havdala)
I have some action to report.
Anybody know the band Matisyahu? Well, the lead singer has recently gone vegan and he makes vegan cholent 3x/wk while on the road touring. My hero :)

Just out of curiosity, any over 45 single men who are Shomer Shabbat and Kashrut?
