I like the look of this recipe for rice salad. Especially the part about using orange for the dressing.
For the green leaves in a salad I sometimes use spinach instead of lettuce if I have it. I have also used cabbage for coleslaw and in the Chinese salad I mentioned.
Recently I have also tried putting in some raw turnip chopped into matchstick shapes or grated and that's quite nice in the salad.
I have also recently tried kohlrabi in salad - again raw and chopped into matchsticks. I used the idea from a book that suggested using it instead of cabbage in a recipe for a Chinese salad.
I sometimes make up a salad just with whatever salad veg I have in the house, which could be lettuce, cucumber, tomato if I have any, onion or spring onion. Occasionally I would put carrot in especially if I don't have the others, or sliced radishes. Then I would make up a dressing with vinegar and oil. To the dressing I might occasionally add a bit of mustard, mustard powder for flavour. A different idea I tried recently was to add some tahini which is an idea I saw recently in the Vegan Society magazine. That seems to work quite well if you also add a bit of paprika or smoked paprika.
personally I like to add to salad seeds: sunflower, sesame, linseed flax. what I want to. :) I like the taste of cucumber and probably the most I'm doing it.Salad with cucumber. I try not to add more than three vegetables
What's your favourite salad concoctions? :)
Yes, we wouldn't want people thinking we dislike salad; 'awsome' can mean the opposite of 'awesome'... corrections duly made :-)
I love salad too, but it would be good if the spelling of awsome could be corrected to awesome.
Maybe more people might join the group then!
