Looks good, that's a nice prospect for shelter cats! I've heard of a law that will soon be applied in Japan that will strike a blow at cat cafes, by restricting the opening hours. Hope this concept will work in London.
Here's some more info on her project, and Cat Cafés.
Having reached her crowd-funded target, London-based Aussie Lauren Pears, AKA 'Lady Dinah', is aiming to open her 'Cat Emporium' café in the next few months (in East London/Shoreditch/Old Street), and she intends to offer vegan options.
Been to Japan in may, I still got a lot of pictures to process, but I've already sorted those related to cats: http://ning.it/OOP7LK [google+], rrrh.
@ Lisa Shaw - it is SO sad! our closest neighbours killed dozens of pets in the village, people forced them to move to the place where l live now, they again killed as much as they could catch. we have a law "protecting" animals, but cops are spitting on the law. few days ago russian cop killed one more teenager, l lived in that city (st.petersburg) and did my best to get out of there.now l am looking for a less hostile place to live with my pets.russian national character is based on a cruelty, the first book they (l refused to do that) read at school is a story about a slave who drowned his beloved doggie!man's life is too short to change traditions
My friend posted this today as what she wants for her cats when she gets a house - it's awesome.
I agree with you - both about having space and not being threatened/killed for enjoying it. My catrun probably measures 25'x30' or so. We have a cat bylaw here, making it illegal to have free-ranging cats - though many people, including me, have allowed their cats to go out unaccompanied. I always worried about them though, knowing some people take pleasure in hurting defenseless animals, traffic etc. I have had 3 cats killed my cars, 1 that would regularly go missing for days at a time but was gone so long a few times I was sure he was dead, and 2 that went missing and has never been seen again. All were fixed, tattooed, collared, licensed and wearing id. Think the 1 was killed by a coyote. The regularly missing one disappeared before I moved. I looked for him daily, left food out, and my neighbours said they'd see him on occasion. After almost 2 mths I succeeded in trapping him. My new place borders a forest so coyotes are a real threat. I also foster so being able to build a catrun was a priority for me. A friend lived next door to a jerk who openly trapped (& killed) anything that came on his property - squirrels, birds, cats. Trapping is legal so he'd laugh at my friend's torment and said he'd keep doing it until they moved - this went on for years until they finally were able to move. We all want to live in the country like you, but I guess that doesn't solve anything if your neighbours are cruel.
for me (and my pets) freedom must spread wider than few feet. anyway, people have no right to kill them!
@ms - Is keeping them indoors or building an enclosure an option? I have almost no yard at all but have a catrun that goes from the house to the fence a few feet away, and under the deck.
unfortunately, country life is not perfect for pets. neighbours are killing them )-(((((
