To quote (with some corrections/changes) a vegan tattooist -
Tattoo inks are made of two (or more) parts - pigments, and the vehicle to carry them. Most pigments are made of metals, plant derivatives or charcoal (from bone). The vehicle is made from ethyl alcohol, purified water, witch hazel, listerine, propylene glycol and glycerine.
A vegan ink is made from vegetable sources, but the non-vegan one is typically made from animal fats.
There are some other factors in a vegan tattoo, such as using Dr. Broners soap instead of green soap (which has animal fat) and using disposable razors with no "mosterizing strip" (with animal fat).

Comment by David VanDenBerg on April 27, 2013 at 3:44am Well I hope it isn't something that causes fear, that would make talking about Veganism to people rather difficult, lol. But I am hoping it serves as a sign for protection. And I didn't even know that group existed! Thank you, I'll make sure to join right away.
Comment by Richard Ⓥ Molyneux on April 25, 2013 at 5:00am Thanks for sharing David, I'd not heard about Icelandic sigils before, does yours truly 'induce fear' and 'protect against abuse of power'? (Should you be in the Vitches group?!)

Comment by Lucie McKenna on November 4, 2012 at 9:06am are there any tattoo loving guys out there looking for their vegan tatto'd soul mate ?
Comment by Richard Ⓥ Molyneux on May 26, 2012 at 3:01am Well, Eternal Inks are from the States, and that's what your UK tattoo parlour is using :-) And I've bought Dr.Bronners soaps before in the UK, hence my comment to you about the lovely label (I hope they haven't changed it, it is/was very inspiring).
Comment by Lucie McKenna on May 26, 2012 at 2:53am they all seem to be products from the states though
Comment by Richard Ⓥ Molyneux on May 26, 2012 at 2:41am Lucie, the answers to your questions are in those links above (in the 'Directory'), as I mentioned before ;-) Though any more viewpoints/experiences are always welcome :-)
Comment by Lucie McKenna on May 24, 2012 at 1:34pm Hi everyone, i'm having my first tattoo next thursday. Just wondering what products everybody uses for the after care? and what soap do you take for using during the tattoo ?
