A question for all the members of this group:

Is anyone attending the annual Frightfest in London this year? It's from the 23. until the 27. of August. I'm definitely going, so would love to meet some fellow vegan / vegetarian horror fans.

More info here:

I have yet to see "Woman in black" I'm afraid. It was cut for cinema screenings, but apparently the new UK blu ray is uncut, so I will be getting that soon. I've also heard it's very atmospheric.

Ti West's THE INNKEEPERS is out now, so I will also be getting that shortly.

Nicholas, what horror movies have you been watching lately? I'm mostly into the Asian stuff again these days. Japanese vintage horror like "The living skeleton", and HK nastiness like "Dream home" and "Revenge: A love story".

I like the quote about Kevin Smith. I do think he is overrated, and it seems it's finally caught up with him. He has a few good films, but for the most part, no so much.

I didn't realize he directed The Innkeepers. I kind of stayed away from that film, only because I didn't know anything about it. I didn't hear much about it. I will definitely check it out. Yeah, "House of the Devil" was a pretty good film, not Devil's House. I don't know if that film exists. Ugh.

I'll have to look for The Innkeepers. Did you ever see The Woman in Black? I haven't yet, but it looks really good. I don't know why I haven't seen it.

The new film from Ti West, director of retro-masterpiece "House of the devil". Looks VERY promising if you ask me.

Some more info: Isabelle Fuhrman (Orphan) got the lead in the "Suspiria by name only remake"

Some quotes made by director David Gordon Green:

1."I got into this business because I love huge action movies. And I don't want to exclude that from the fabric of my career if I can incorporate it in some way."
2."[on independent film-makers] Kevin Smith is the only one I don't like particularly. I respect most of them. He's the one I can't identify with in any way. He kind of created a Special Olympics for film. They just kind of lowered the standard.
3."I have a difficult time shooting in places that are not alive. I like the chaos and uncertainty of practical locations. Stages are boring and stuffy; it's like being on an airplane too long or in the pouch of a marsupial.

What?! I didn't read that about the Suspiria remake. Yeah, it just gets worse and worse. But, hey, you never know. He might pull it off with a good remake or retelling.

No, no, I don't believe that at all. It'll be horrible.

Hahaha, yeah, I can't imagine it being the same. A made for t.v. Exorcist movie. Nah! Then again, I don't know if it's for something like HBO, then it might work. I can't imagine why anyone would want to remake that. But, that's Hollywood. They complain and want something original, but then someone brings them an original script and they don't want to take the risk.

I have not seen The Exorcism of Emily Rose. I will have to check it out.

I have seen The Last Exorcism, and I agree. I was pleasantly surprised as well. The ending was great. I like how the camera showed the minister holding the cross and he walks out there against evil. The look on his face. Great!

The ending reminded me of The Devil's House. Have you seen that one?

Apparently, he's planning on infusing the whole thing with an action (film) sensibility, or something of the sort. He likes fast moving movies, the structural framework of commercial / mainstream cinema. Hope he fails miserably! I don't think I have EVER been more strongly opposed towards a remake! It's sacrilege!

What???? A TV version of "The exorcist"???? Will they substitute all the colorful swear words and sexualized language with family friendly alternatives then, I wonder? "Your mother does laundry for Satan in hell"??? :D

Btw, talking about possession movies, what's your opinion on "The exorcism of Emily rose" and "The last exorcism"? I was pleasantly surprised by the latter. Not at all what I was expecting. :D

One more thing, I assume you're familiar with the real life case behind "Emily rose"? The tragic story of Annelise Michel, the unfortunate victim of severe parental neglect & religious fanaticism and superstition.
