Many thanks, Ralph, for the info about "Dragon". As you say, the full computer version should ( in theory )work at least as well as the iPhone version, but sometimes the "common sense" expectation does not always happen in practice.

Barry:

I use Dragon on my iPhone. It works well. It occasionally scrambles stuff if I don't speak clearly, and it sometimes confuses words that sound similar, but for general use it is fine. It certainly speeds up the transcriptions I sometimes have to carry out. I haven't used the PC version but would imagine that it is more sophisticated than the iPone app.

I was thinking of buying a computer along with "dragon" which converts speech to text - which would save a lot of time compared to typing if it does works accurately and without you having to speak to slowly - either of which would make it pointless. Does anyone have any experience of "dragon" or anything similar -  obviously I don't want to spend several hundred pounds on something that may be pointless. For those of you who already have a computer, Dragon cost about £70 as an "add-on"; if you do a lot of writing it would certainly save a lot of time if it works - you could probably return the software and get a refund if you found it unsatisfactory depending on the deal where you bought it - but I, myself, would have to buy a computer (as I only use one at a library at present and do not have my own) and would be unlikely to be able to return the computer and get a refund just because I was dissatisfied with an added-on software package.

I have just now finished to translate from English to German of "The story of Humphrey the Hereford" by Stephen Marcus Finn.

It's basically about a unique friendship between a Crow and a Calve, both lived on a milkfarm for a long time, ruled by an evil man, called Dev, or uncle Dev.
Caw, the crow was captured by him as a fledgling, had his wings cut and was chained up. Humphrey, the Hereford was born like many other calves on the milkfarm. But the children, who also lived there adopted him and made him their pet, despite of the harsh objections of Dev.
Over the years Caw, Humphrey and the children Nick and Lindi developed a deep friendship. Caw was even able to learn their language and talk to them.

His amazing speech talent enables him to tell the story of Humphrey the Hereford, his life and his fate. Caw is the Einstein of birds, as he calls himself, brilliant, cunning, clever and proud. He tells the story with much humour and has a talent for repeating things often or changing the topic.

It's a very emotional story, both positive and negative. There is a strong message that has to lead to a consequent change of people's lifestyle.

I wish that many children and adults read this book and understand.

Hi Ruth

thank you for your kind words! I self-published on Amazon Kindle (its free) and then on Create Space (more or less free) which is a sister company of Amazon. Just received my proof copy in paperback and it looks ok so I will complete the publishing - then I can order some copies to sell and it will also be made available on Amazon. They give you an ISBN so in theory any other bookshop could order it too. It's a print on demand service - you order one and they print it and post it within a few days!

All the info you need to publish your own is on http://www.amazon.com/gp/seller-account/mm-summary-page.html?ie=UTF...

Easy enough - a little difficult in places, but the info you need is there somewhere. If you decide to do it I would be pleased to help if I can, if you get stuck.

Are your novels ready to publish?

Hi mark, I just read the chapteer on Amazon and am really gripped - its brilliant!! Don't have a kindle though so will have to wait for paperback.. Did you manage to find a publisher? I have done nothing with mine since last November, but am told it is very easy to at least put it out as an ebook. Thing is I'm older generation and none of my friends have kindle, and it costs too much to get it self printed. Well done to you and the very best of luck xx

Hi everyone

I finally finished my novel - it's a mind, body, spirit, fantasy adventure set in modern Hong Kong and a parallel world of ancient China. Demons, ghosts, bamboo forests, snowstorms and cups of tea...

I'm a vegan currently writing a fantasy novel about animals. It touches on animal issues such as cruel medical experiments and spiritual issues such as how humans pollute not just the planet by being irresponsible, but also the mass consciousness. I hope I'm not out of line sharing the link here:

Hello, I recently released a short story "The Way to Nowhere" over at Smashwords. This short story won 3rd place in the 79th Annual Writer's Digest competition, under Literary/Mainstream. It can be downloaded for free. Enjoy! And if you'd be kind to rate it, it will be much appreciated! Thanks!
