I was passing through the meat aisle in Woodman's when I heard this chick saying, "I don't eat this stuff...I'm a vegetarian....I only eat fish and chicken."  Okay moron!  Yeah, it's great that she…Continue

Ally, the Green Owl on Atwood Avenue is good.  Also Willy Street Co-op, while not a restaurant, has a great hot bar/salad bar/deli with lots of awesome vegan items.  They are in Middleton and also on Williamson Street.

Hi all! Any good VEGAN-friendly restaurants in the Madison area? :)

Hi! I'm thrilled to find this group. I've been a vegetarian for about 11 years, am now primarily vegan. I live in the Fox Valley (just west of Appleton) and find very few people who are veg*n in the area. Good to know there are more in the state!

mary, I have not spent much time in Milwaukee, but I'm glad to hear it's veg friendly among other things. I think you will enjoy Minneapolis. I am a native Minnesotan and spent a lot of time in Mpls--very veg-friendly.

I often don't forget to appreciate things like grocery stores where I have many choices, restaurants that understand the term vegan, and most wonderful is friends to share meals and common values with. Growing up around Green Bay was not very veg* hospitable. I remember talking with servers at work parties or social engagements I felt obligated to attend about vegetarianism and not eating animals and still receiving my meal with bacon?! It was a completely foreign concept to many in the area I was raised. Today, Milwaukee, and more so my neighborhood in Riverwest is a ridiculously comfortable haven to be vegetarian/vegan, religious, atheist, anarchist, republi...well almost anything. I am planning to move to Minneapolis this summer and I never thought that I would say this, but I am really going to miss Wisconsin. If anyone is ever passing though or moving to Milwaukee and seeking some veg* advice, I have a full palate of suggestions.

Molly, my advice on the cheese....just say 'no'. If that doesn't work, point away and say "Hey, isn't that Brett Favre?" Then run away.

Honestly, Alecia, I never go out to eat in Beloit. If I go out to eat, I will drive to Rockford and have Indian food. So, I do cook a lot for myself, but I'm pretty good at it. :o)
