Giving Positive Reinforcement

Last week, I had lunch at Ruby Tuesday's. They had a few items on the menu that looked promising, so I called the restaurant ahead of time to ensure that the dish was vegan or could be made vegan with some modification.

When I called, I asked specifically for the person most knowledgeable about allergen info. Not only did he give me answers, he even made some suggestions. The spaghetti squash marinara was awesome.

After lunch, I went to their website and wrote a nice note to their corporate office, giving some background information (stating that I'm vegan and always on the lookout for viable options when dining out) specifically highlighting how well I was treated.

I imagine if enough people did this, restaurants would take notice.

Also post on your Facebook about how you had a good experience eating at _____. Like the restaurant's Facebook page. Follow them on Twitter. Remind your friends that they can come out to the same restaurants that you do.

Much better than me trying to ask a tired, over worked employee in a crowded establishment if their veggie burgers have eggs in them or not. Not to mention it saves time that could have been wasted if i went to a place where i ended up not being able to eat there at all. Though, spreading awareness is like the mega vegan double dipped chocolate cherry on top.

I'm hoping that it'll encourage restaurants to expand their menus and improve practices to make the whole experience more vegan-friendly. It doesn't hurt, though, that you sometimes get gift certificates for providing feedback :)
