Vegan MP Kerry McCarthy puts the vegan case to UK parliament

01 November 2011. An historic moment for veganism. The first time that World Vegan Day was marked in the UK's Parliament. Vegan MP Kerry McCarthy.

For further info - in the follow-on video Jim Plaice, the farming minister, in his reply to this speech said some land can only grow grass. This is incorrect as if land can grow grass it can probably also grow trees which yield fruit and/or nuts. He also claimed that some sheep and cows can survive on grass only - many people may have this impression from only seeing these animals eating grass in fields but in fact they need much more than this; I once saw on TV a farmer throwing protein pellets into the grass where sheep were eating so that they would eat these also. (Is Jim Plaice being deliberately dishonest as he himself is a farmer?).
